Measurements & Annotations Tools

These tools are located in two places:

  • In the Feature Panel inside the Toolbox, when the Measurements layer or the Annotations layer is selected in the Layer dropdown.
  • In the Shortcut Bar of the viewers.

Both behave the same and select from one or other place means no difference.

Measurements

These tools allow to perform measurements on the viewer.

Tool Tool name Execution
Point Coordinates Click in one point to measure coordinates.
Length Click two times to measure the planar length between the clicked points.
Poly Length Click several times to measures the planar length between the clicked points. Double click for last point.
Alt + Drag to measure the planar length of the freehand line.
Ground Poly Length Click several times to measures the ground length between the clicked points. Double click for last point.
Alt + Drag to measure the ground length of the freehand line.
Performs poly-line length measurements on the terrain using the available DTMs. This tool is only available in Map and Oblique viewers.
Area Click several times to measure the area of the linear polygon. Double click for last point.
Alt + Drag to measure the area of the freehand polygon.
Vertical Area Performs vertical area measurements on building facades. This tool is only available in Map & Oblique viewers when in Oblique mode.
Click several times to measure the vertical area of the linear polygon. Double click for last point. First two points are used to restrict verticality of following points.
Height Performs vertical height measurements on buildings facades. This tool is only available in Map & Oblique viewers when in Oblique mode.
Click two time to measure the height between the clicked points.
Elevation Click in one point to show the elevation of clicked location.
Diagonal Performs diagonal measurement on building facades. This tool is only available in Map & Oblique viewers when in Oblique mode.
Click three times to measure the diagonal length between first and third point. First two points are used to restrict verticality of the third point.
Bearing Click two times to measure the bearing between the clicked points. Second point sets the direction.
Labels Show/hide the label value of existing measurements. This tool is active by default.
Delete Remove all existing measurements in the viewer.
Use depth map This button is only available for Street viewers and is a check button that can be used to activate or deactivate the use of Depth Map when doing measurements. This tool is explained in detail below.

Annotations

These tools allow to perform annotations on the viewer. The feature tools will allow to add parameters on annotation.

Tool Tool name Execution
Point Click in one point to draw a point at clicked location.
Polyline Click several times to draw a polyline between the clicked points. Double click for last point.
Alt + Drag to draw a freehand polyline.
Polygon Click several times to draw a linear polygon. Double click for last point.
Alt + Drag to draw a freehand polygon.
Polygon Click several times to draw a horizontal polygon. Double click for last point. First point sets horizontal plane.
This tool is only available for Street viewers.
Polygon Click several times to draw a vertical polygon. Double click for last point. First point sets vertical plane.
This tool is only available for Street viewers.
Text Draws a text at clicked location after prompting for the string.
Delete Removes all existing annotations in the viewer.
Use depth map This button is only available for Street viewers and is a check button that can be used to activate or deactivate the use of Depth Map when doing annotations. This tool is explained in detail below.

Note: For superusers, with permissions to save workspaces, measurements and annotations are persisted in the wokspace when it is saved and in permanent cookies in user browser if the workspace is not saved. For basic users, which cannot save workspaces, measurements and annotations are persisted only is permanent cookies in user browser.

Measurements and annotations in Street viewers

Measurements and annotations in Street viewers is a bit different than in other viewers. There are two modes for doing measurements and annotations:

  • Using Depth Map, that positions geometries using a Depth Map;
  • Without Depth Map, that locate geometries at a predefined distance. This measurements or annotations, of course, are not accurate but any measurement or annotation can be redefined using the Street panel, that contains tools to redefine the vertexes of any measurement or annotation.

Depth Map mode only can be used if the current Street image has a depth map. To check if the current image has a depth map you can do it with the Use Depth Map button in the Measurements/Annotations tools or with the Depth Map button in the shortcut button list in the viewer. Both buttons are shown greyed when no depth map is available, and in normal state when there is a depth map available.

To activate one of the modes:

  • To activate the Depth Map measurement mode, click in the Use Depth Map button in the Measurements/Annotation tools, and set it as checked .
  • To activate the Without Depth Map mode, click in the same button in the Measurements/Annotation tools, but set it as unchecked .

If you activate Depth Map mode but there is not a depth map available, the Use Depth Map button will be shown greyed and selected, but the Depth Map mode won't be active, and instead the Without Depth Map mode will be active.

When using the measurement/annotation tools both modes work the same. You must select one measurement/annotation tool, as Length or Polyline, and click one or several times in the viewer to draw the measurement. The difference betweeen Depth Map mode and Without Depth Map mode is that first mode calculates the right and exact geometry for the measurement/annotation, locating the vertex of the geometry in the correct 3D coordinates; in the second calculates and aproximated geometry, locating the vertex of the geometry at arbitrary distances from the current point of capture of the Street image.

When doing measurements or annotations in Without Depth Map mode (or even using the Depth Map mode), it is possible to redefine the vertex points of the geometries to obtain a more accurate measurement or annotation. To do so check the Street Panel.

Units in measurements

For lengths and areas it is possible to change the units for the measurements. Internally, measurements are always stored in metric units, but it is possible to change how they are shown in the viewers or the Feature panel.

Refer to Dashboard - Workspace settings for changing the units.
